Medicines of The Ancestors

Three sacred medicines. Three distinct paths. One intention — to return you to yourself, to heal what needs healing, and to remember who you truly are.

For centuries, indigenous peoples across Mexico and the Americas have worked with sacred plant medicines as tools for healing, vision, and spiritual alignment. These are not recreational substances — they are living teachers, and each demands proper preparation, intention, and guidance.

At The Ancestral Roots, every ceremony is held by experienced facilitators in a contained, safe, and sacred space. We offer three distinct medicines, each with its own character, tradition, and invitation.

Wixárika Tradition

Hikuri

An encounter with vision and the heart.

Hikuri is a sacred medicine used for centuries by the Wixárika (Huichol) people in the Wirikuta desert. It is more than just a plant — it is a teacher that invites us to heal the wounds of the soul and to remember who we truly are.

This ceremony is a process of deep introspection that allows us to cleanse the spirit, clarify the mind, and open the heart to compassion. Accompanied by chants, a sacred fire, and expert guidance, Hikuri facilitates a direct connection with nature and our life's purpose.

Toad

A rebirth into unity.

The medicine of the Bufo alvarius toad — sourced from the secretion of the Sonoran Desert toad — is considered one of the most powerful and profound experiences for the expansion of consciousness. It is often described as a symbolic "death and rebirth."

Through this medicine, participants frequently report an ego dissolution and an encounter with the "All" — or universal unity. A process of surrender that releases emotional blockages, deep-seated traumas, and limiting mental patterns.

Mazatec Tradition

Niños Santos

The guidance of ancestral wisdom.

The "Niños Santos" — the term used by the curandera María Sabina to refer to sacred mushrooms — are teachers of emotional and spiritual healing. This medicine, central to the Mazatec cosmogony, acts as a bridge between the physical plane and subtle realms of consciousness.

The ceremony is characterized by a process of loving introspection. The medicine helps to process complex emotions, resolve grief, and find answers to deep questions within the self. A journey guided by respect, intention, and silence.

A Note on Safety & Respect

These medicines demand reverence.

These medicines are tools for profound healing and must be approached with respect, proper preparation, and the supervision of experienced guides. At The Ancestral Roots, we prioritize the physical, emotional, and spiritual integrity of every participant — ensuring a space of containment and professional support throughout the entire process.

  • Thorough pre-ceremony screening and preparation for each participant.

  • Experienced facilitators present throughout every ceremony.

  • Post-ceremony integration session and ongoing follow-up support.
